Here it is…after 380 miles on the Prometheus, I’m ready to spill the tea on the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly! The Good: The quality of build and components are 2nd to none! Reliable and exceptionally powerful LinnPower Gear Drives, Incredible Range, Decks combo of perfect foot feel, stiffness for stability, and just the right amount of flex for shock absorption and fatigue reduction is in a word…perfect! Speaking of perfect, the blissful high pitched whine of those huge motors at around 18+ MPH that sound like wizzzing Jet Turbines is simply music to my ears! Off Road I can attest to the fact that it is truly a Beast! Between the flex of the deck and the agility of those sick MBS Matrix III Trucks…it simply makes short work out of all but the most treacherous of trails! Pro Tip: Learn how to adjust and swap out those highly adjustable bushings to customize your preferences. It’s not only ridiculously easy to do, but they are probably the most customizable trucks on the market for what ever environment or style you prefer! The Bad: You will look and feel Bad A$$ and think you’re invincible at times. Trust me…you’re not! As well, you will get tired of people asking you How fast does that thing go? And then challenging you to show them…like your some kind of circus freak whose gonna take a chance with your life at that exact moment for their amusement?! The Ugly: The sometimes unpredictable throttle delay that OwnBoard has rapidly addressed by reaching out to all its Prometheus customer base and providing them with replacement remote to solve this specific issue! That was simply my only slight concern or complaint, and they’ve addressed it with me before I even said a word…it’s almost like they listen to their customers thoughts…even before they’ve expressed them?! 🤔😱
So much torque, carves very well with the mbs trucks and the linnpower gearbox is smooth and sounds great.
Customer service has been really good!
This is a very high performance package and great bang for your buck. Highly recommend the Ownboard Prometheus!
sometimes the Bluetooth connection of the remote control to the board disappears at speed. How can I fix this problem?
Another quality product from a company you can trust.
I've had the pleasure of owning and riding Ownboard ZEUS for over 2100 miles and it's still going strong. Just a beautiful board.
When I saw PROMETHEUS I had to have it and let me tell you, it's not just transportation; it's an experience! Whether you're a seasoned skater or a newcomer looking for a ride, this board checks all the boxes for performance, design, and sheer fun!
Right out of the box, the board's precision design catches your eye. It boasts a robust construction with a deck that feels sturdy yet flexible, offering just the right balance of stability and responsiveness. The board's aesthetics, with its clean lines and modern look, make it a standout, whether you're cruising through the city streets or off-road.
The motors, which provides serious torque to tackle any grade hill with ease, something that pleasantly surprised me. Acceleration is smooth, thanks to the variable speed trigger, allowing beginners to feel comfortable while giving seasoned riders that adrenaline rush.
Battery life is particularly impressive considering the board's performance capabilities. The board offers a remarkably smooth stable ride at any speed, thanks to the high-quality precision made MBS CNC Matrix III trucks with Linnpower gear drive to create a groundbreaking adjustable drivetrain that has the ability to go from carvy to stable with a simple adjustment.
The remote control feels intuitive, with clear feedback on speed, battery and more status.
Prometheus is a blend of power, design, and range making it an excellent choice for anyone interested in electric skateboarding. While it's an investment, the quality and enjoyment it provides justify every penny. If you're looking for a new way to commute with style or just want to add some electric fun to your life, this skateboard is highly recommended.
I have honestly only ridden once since my upgrade, due to heavy downpours/icy roads, but such a smooth feeling.
So I have to say I changed bushings on top of new esc on top of new motors, so like no wonder it feels great. Only little thing, and the reason for 4 star, was I emailed twice to get a video showing the assembly of the motors. For me I had to literally force the cable to connect, and I was worried if that was commonplace. My response was a group of pictures and they were helpful, just not what I needed.
I still recommend ownboard, long lasting and well designed boards, at least for me.
I’m absolutely loving this board the power it has is completely unmatched amongst any of my other boards. It’s super stable even at 30+ mph i get no wobbles and with its large 8 inch tyres i glide over the very poor roads her in the UK. The MBS trucks are awesome and actually very carvey for large truck and considering the size of the board they allow quite sharp turning. The huge battery is great and im getting about 4 days commuting to work between charges in S mode which is a little over 30miles. Im charging before its fully depleted too so i believe it could do at least 35 miles. This is the first board I’ve had where i don’t always stay in turbo mode as S mode is more than powerful enough. Love the free shredlights too, battery’s don’t last long but they’re super bright and the auto on off feature is great. I also love that you get spare inner tubes, pump and bindings with this board thats a nice touch and saves me a few pennies buying separately.
Now for the negatives and reasons for 4 stars and not 5. First off the remote is very poor, its cheap plastic and i would imagine it will smash to pieces if you fall off on any hard surface. The lcd isn’t sealed around the edges and theres a gap where stuff can get it. I have grains of sand under the lcd that have got in from the wind! If i get caught in the rain it will definitely get water inside too. The finger hole is tiny and this makes wearing gloves impossible unless you hold it awkwardly but even without gloves it just doesn’t sit right in the hand making using the throttle wheel feel awkward. Such a let down for a $2k board to have such a cheap remote when the board itself is so premium. Please Ownboard if you read these reviews make a new remote for this board in the normal classic style we all love and are used to and make it with a durable metal shell thats weather resistant. Secondly, there is some dead space on the throttle wheel. This isn’t as much of an issue as I’ve already kinda got used to it now but accelerating from a dead stop is still a bit sketchy you are always unsure when its going to kick in causing you to lurch forward unexpectedly if your not very careful. This dead space isn’t too noticeable when your moving though. I saw on youtube that you can change the remote settings to help with this but i have done this and it makes very little difference.
So a summary- Absolutely fantastic board with power and battery for days. Very premium feeling board with great parts and a great ride feel. Its only let down by the remote and i hope you guys will make a new one asap, one that matches the premium quality of the board itself. I believe that with a better more robust and more usable remote this board will have no competition in this price range.
Edit - after speaking to Ownboard customer support they are sending me a new remote and making a metal casing for it too. I absolutely love how they listen to my feedback And are going out of their way to make this board better. Amazing company, and amazing board. Im upgrading my review to 5 Stars ⭐⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ with the new remote this board is the best in its price range imo. Thank you Ownboard
Thank you for your feedback. The remote is a new model. We need more time to optimize it. If you don’t feel comfortable now, we can send you a universal model for free. We are designing a metal frame for the universal model remote. Then send it to all customers a new free remote control. Thanks for your feedback again. Hope more customer share your experience fot the Prometheus.
No board can beat the 2wd Carbon Hurricane I was riding, no other model and certainly not those training unicycles (One Wheels). Until now. AMAZING! The 4wd Zeus Max is off the chart. The deck is so comfortable and steady it does really like a snowboard at times. Well designed. I was worried about the concave not being as deep as I prefer. Wrong! It’s perfect for leaning into a carve. The motors on the front take some getting used to. The Tork they bring is strong and with 2wd you just lean forward, front motors don’t give you a chance! Wonderful but start slow or you’ll get thrown (like me). The remote has dropped but not for any more than a fraction. Not sure if I’m just feeling it more because of the front motors or if it’s slightly more than my Hurricane. Either way, it hasn’t affect ANY performance or fuction, just an observation. I only felt in my remote on the Hurricane so it probably is those 2 fabulous gearboxes on the front. Shredlights on front and rear + handle all fit perfectly and I’m installing gearbox protectors from Linnpower tomorrow. I was going to swap our my tubeless racing wheels but the ride is so steady with the stock ones I currently don’t see the need. Basically if you are even remotely considering getting the Zeus Max 4wd, don’t hesitate do it. You won’t regret it.
2 Years with this board so far. The pneumatic 6-7" tires are the way to go, the ride is buttery smooth compared to the cloud or other poly wheels. They do run the risk of getting a leak if your ride is bumpy or filled with rocks (I generally ride on the street for daily commute). I've averaged 1-2 tires leaking a year, ride 1-3 times a week, up to 14 miles each time to work. I ride with pneumatics and always have the airless honeycomb tires as a backup with me for peace of mind. The customer service has been responsive, just keep it mind they may be in a different time zone.
After customer feedback, they also changed the handle to make it possible to pull the board behind you without the motor grill guard scratching the ground.
The support team told me the 8Ah battery would fit my board but they were wrong. The battery was too big for the casing and they provided me the wrong adapter. Plus the battery got shipped 2 weeks after they told me the 6Ah battery was out of stock. I wasted my time and money on this and ended up buying a new board.
I'm not a good writing review. but all I can say is i really appreciate the new esc team ownboard and I really like when it got here faster.
